Spelling reality check

Standard
You’ll note that after the word noisiest my daughter wrote “AKA Joe,” her little brother. Later she did the same next to “craziness.” I didn’t complain since both statements were accurate.

I went over my daughter’s weekly spelling words with her to be sure she knew their meanings. Most were easy, but some, like ascertain, required an explanation. Others I pointed to and asked, “Do you know what this word means?”

“Yes.”

“And this one?”

“Yes.”

“Let me tell you what this one means.”

“I know what cleanliness means!” she said.

“Based on the state of your room, I don’t think you do,” I countered.

She grinned sheepishly.

A friend of mine loves the cereal Wheaties. I shamefully admitted that I had found an expired box in my pantry. I did eat it; nonetheless, and it tasted fine. Still, she was shocked that I could allow such a thing to happen. So I sent her these pictures.

She was entertained, and all was forgiven.

And my final offering to you, reader, is this Jeep I spotted on the road. Such clever people make me smile.

Did any of these or something else today make you smile? Please do share! 🙂

  1. Your children, or anyone, trading barbs with you have got to remember YOU’RE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR. It’s like how you don’t get into a fender bender with a lawyer, don’t disagree with your barber, don’t tug on Superman’s cape, don’t spit into the wind, don’t pull the mask off the Lone Ranger,…

BTW, I have a new entry in the “Get” “Lost” files out after almost 4 years. I made the index page my “details” URL; the new entry is link 21 at the bottom.

  2. Your daughter is witty and wise. Two great qualities. And the branch does not fall far from the tree. 🙂Ha, ha, meaning of “cleanliness.”………witty and wise……I rest my case. Lilies of the Field rings a bell, although I am not sure whether I have seen it. Was it a MAJOR tear jerker? I am not trying to crash your movie date with fuzzy blankets and tea. Good eye on the jeep/beer……

  3. Betsy, newcomer here. Very cute. Our children are grown, but we remember the spelling words. We also had those root words summaries where the kids had to know if the root word was Greek, Latin, French, etc. I love the title of your blog. Best wishes, Keith

  5. Betsy, your family are bright sparks and just because your daughter knows the meaning of cleaniness doesn’t mean she has to apply it! 😃 As for the cereal, not one I’ve heard of but I sure wouldn’t miss it in the shop! Great you and your friend are now okay! 😃 A fun way to make up!
