I’ve previously written about my difficulty finding a quiet place away from the house to work without fear of freezing or minor theft. But since that didn’t happen at the library, I decided to just stay home.
I got cozy and warm under a blanket on my bed with my laptop snuggled on my lap. The house was quiet. Joe was napping. The girls were reading. I was being productive.
Then Joe woke up.
Suddenly doors up and down the hallway were opening and closing as all four children, makeshift wands aloft shouted, “Expelliarmus!” “Protego!” “Stupefy!” “Impedimenta!”
Amazingly, I managed to smile and keep writing. But when I heard little Joe yell, “Crucio!” I shouted through my bedroom door, “No teaching your brother the Unforgivable Curses!”
If you’re unfamiliar with Harry Potter, I apologize that this makes no sense.
The following week, I decided to try the library again (next post). I was told later that when I drove away, Joe attempted to summon me back by saying, “Accio Mom.”
The things these girls are teaching him!
Oh my, I LOVE LOVE it! How old is he? Can’t believe he’s already into Harry Potter. I have been waiting to watch the movies and read all the books once again with my babies. They just don’t seem to be ready yet though!

He’s two, and he doesn’t really know what’s going on beyond what his sisters tell him, but he loves it all just the same. 🙂 My youngest daughter is 9. The books get pretty dark toward the end, as you know, so you gotta weigh what you think your kids can handle. We’re on the last book now, and we’ve all been really enjoying them. I’ve read them before.

He’s a cutie. So cool..yes mine are just not ready. We cry watching simple animated movies lol!
Nothing like re-living your older days/memories with your kids.

Yes, you’ve got to keep those girls inline with those spells – somebody could get hurt with all those spells flying around.
but be careful because someday his magic just might be strong enough to really, “Accio mom.”

Ha! It’s a good thing the horse power of my car was strong enough to withstand his summoning charm.

Betsy, he’s adorable and no wonder his sisters are having such a delight in including him in their games! I can see how this is not the ideal place to work though … good luck at the library!😀

Thanks, Annika. I wish I could say the next library visit worked out better, but… I still wonder how I managed to write a book while Joe was a baby!

I am NOT familiar with Harry Potter (I just could NOT get into those books) but I found this to be brilliant!
And when did Joseph get so tall??????

He’s just a little sponge absorbing what his older sisters tell him. Clearly you and your car are stronger than his spells, but there could be a time…

I sure hope his skill doesn’t improve, or I’ll never get to leave the house without him! 😉

So adorable. The HP craze started when my daughter was in college, so we missed out on the costumes and wands, spells and unforgivable curses. Love it.

Thanks, D. My kids are having loads of fun–and exercise dodging spells. 😉 I also make a point not to start reading until my husband is ready to listen too. Fun for the whole family!

Well. It’s better than walking into their bedroom to find a bubbling black cauldron or REDRUM scrawled in red across the mirror!

I’m glad they didn’t use black marker on his forehead! He does look so cute, though! He should never hide behind the invisibility cloak.

Well, his invisibility cloak is translucent, so, all good, Flojo.

So. CUTE. And those owls are going to show up to summon your practicing wizards to Hogwarts! then again, you never know what those older sisters are going to teach him. Wait, if they master the transformation spell, they could turn Joe into a kitty. Then you’d have your very own 🙂 Wait, that kinda ruins the whole “teaching spells to little brother” exercise. Hmm. Good luck, Betsy! May those owls not run into the windows 😀 😀

Ha! Joe would become Crookshanks for sure. I’ll keep an eye out for owls. 🙂 🙂

I’m not into Harry Potter so I had to have my daughter interpret this for me!
