One is great at sleeping, the other excels in preventing sleep. Will the toddler succeed in waking his big sister? Or will the teen continue sleeping until the little brother gets bored and leaves? Place your votes in the comments, and I’ll reveal the answer.

The teen sleeps on and the toddler, bored to yawns, falls asleep next to her. 😁

Wouldn’t that have been nice? Sadly no. Teen, persuaded by toddler’s cuteness, woke up to play with him. Almost as good of a conclusion. 😉
Thank you for playing, Jaya!

She is. It’s nice that I have girls who dote on their brother. He may be getting spoiled as a result, however.

Oh they’ll turn into junior mommies soon enough and sit on him. No fear of spoiling! 😉

Sit on him! Haha. I guess we’ll see how long his cuteness will sustain him. 🙂

The teen continues to sleep, rolls over– and knocks the toddler onto the floor where he’ll cry loud enough to wake up the teen. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

Ooh, that’s a good, creative one. The correct answer is the toddler won the teen over with his cuteness. She rolled over, carefully, to hug him. 🙂

The teen thought the little guy was a hobbit and woke up so they could find the ring together. (I bet the teen has exciting dreams. That’s why she sleeps so late.)

That is an excellent, well-educated guess!

My guess is that toddler starts messing with teenagers stuff, forcing teenager to pay attention (but not get out of bed). Teenager yells for parent to get toddler. Then teenager goes back to sleep. 🙂

Another wonderful, logical guess, and one I’m quite confident has indeed happened with these two. In this instance, toddler was already messing with teen’s stuff, though she didn’t seem to mind. She rolled over to hug him and eventually got out of bed not too long after that. He did his job well. 🙂 Thanks for playing, Diana.

I am guessing the kid wins here. He is persistent. And Cute. Hard combo to compete with.

That is absolutely correct. It’s almost like you have some inside knowledge into these children’s personalities. 😉

Close. Teen wakes up to hug toddler. They’re both happy. 🙂 I must say, though, I’m pleased by all the different variations people took with this. More than I had thought of.

Toddler vs teen. Always bet on the toddler. I’ll put a side bet on a loud, “MOM!!!” yell came from the teen.

People who are saying always bet on the toddler (there have been a few of you), must be parents. Though she has yelled for me in the past when this happens, I don’t believe she did so on this occasion, but she did definitely wake up! Thanks for playing, Andrew. 🙂

Irate teen throws toddler off. Toddler bawls. Mom comes in. Shouting ensues. Teen forced to wake up.

OK…I only read the answer now. I was super-imposing *my* kids into the scenario 😉

Oh dear. Teen is not yet at an age where throwing toddler off would be an option she’d think of–I hope. Maybe in a couple years. She’s still a young teen. 🙂

Toddlers are persistent. Ruthless. Cruel. Shameless. Loud. Oh, so very loud….
This doesn’t even resemble a fair fight.

Haha! He was, amazingly, playing quietly with her toys in this instance, however. But, yea, he still woke her up. 🙂

Teen does what I do when I want to rest longer, she plays “what’s on my back” with toddler where she asks him to place something on her back and she has to guess what it is. Toddler loves finding objects and mom can play this for a long time.

My vote goes to the teen. They are great at blocking out all attempts to get their attention, regardless of the other person’s age!

So sorry, Mark. It’s clearly been a long time since you’ve had a toddler in the house. Toddler trumps all, I’m afraid. The little man is irresistible.

I just read this, and how ironic! I thought to write a similar post today after my preschooler (a little older than toddler, of course) came into our room bouncing, and then I had to go unearth the teenager from his bedthings…

Little ones are exceptionally good at preventing sleep, and trying to keep themselves from sleeping [she types as her toddler cries in his crib instead of napping…] ;P
