Watermelon woes

I have a shirt with an image in the corner of a watermelon slice being carried away by ants. Once I looked down and saw an actual ant crawling across my shirt just below that image!

My younger two girls like to pretend to grab the watermelon from my shirt and put it in their pocket to save for later. (I shudder at what a mess that would make.)

One time my youngest was complaining about the disproportionate watermelon distribution when I got her into the top bunk. I suggested that since she was up there, I could throw her enough watermelon to equal her sister’s.

She cried, “I can’t catch them. They’re too heavy!”

Not able to argue with that logic, I felt obligated to climb the ladder so she could reach my shirt and count until she, too had 50 watermelons.

Kids!

Another time I was at my desk working when she began plucking watermelon from my shirt. I told her to then go share with her sister. She ran off saying, “L, I got more watermelon.” I heard her counting them off so they could have an equal number.

They’re so good at sharing.

Happy 4th of July this week to my American friends! Will you be eating watermelon or saving it for the kids instead?

  2. LOL! What great imaginations! Now, if you could only do that with money (and magically have it be real as soon as they took it from your shirt–hey, that would be the shirt that laid the green bills, or Rumplestiltskin’s magic shirt) 😀

  6. Another example of parenting being funny no doubt. I bought a watermelon this week and put it in the RV refrigerator. I left this morning to drive down the road to another location. The melon apparently rolled and pushed the refrigerator door open. Out comes the melon on the floor. Since I was driving I didn’t know what the noise was but soon realized the partially broken, round melon rolled to my seat. I glanced back and saw bits of melon along the way. Needless to say, I salvaged it, cut some pieces and still had a few slices to taste. So, yes we’re having watermelon. Thanks for the happy 4th of July. It is hot in Florida and hopefully our daily rains will hold off for the night fireworks for those celebrating in that manner.

  10. Watermelon seems to be the only fruit my toddler will eat. My daughter talked her dad into buying her a squishy… it was a watermelon! Kids are funny 🙂 Hope you all have a wonderful Fourth of July 🙂

  15. It’s amazing how kids’ imaginations become so entwined with reality and adult logic doesn’t apply. Hang on to that! Just think, you can get a t-shirt with a closet full of clothes and another one with a college education. 🙂
