I’ve noticed from reading the blogs of other authors that it appears to be standard operating procedure to share about your marketing successes. I guess it lends credence to you being a legit author and not simply a hack. To that end, I felt I ought to report that my book, which has been out nearly a month, has sold 1,106 copies. That sounds pretty good to me.
Also, it now has six 5-star reviews on Amazon. Maybe that’s not a lot, but at least they’re all rave reviews. So far, like the first book, not a single non-5-star review in the bunch. And that’s pretty cool.
[Editor’s note: You’re not doing a very good job marketing if you don’t even bother mentioning the name of the book: 101 Tips for Marrying the Right Person. Or the first book: 101 Tips for a Happier Marriage. Sheesh. You can find them both at my Amazon page.]
I’ve also seen three terrific reviews on websites, and I wasn’t even looking for them. (Perhaps I should. My husband came across one by accident.)
And I’ve done three radio interviews so far. The hostess of the last one said that a half hour was not enough time to unpack everything in the book, and she’d need to have me on again for a full hour next time. True to her word, I got an email from our publicist today about scheduling that hour-long interview.
So, stuff is happening. Thank you for reading about it. As your reward, here’s a story for you:
The girls and I watch episodes of Master Chef while the hubs is at one of his basketball games. When he gets home, they like to give him updates on who’s still in and who’s been eliminated. The youngest told him that she thinks so-in-so will be the master cook. He said, “Master Chef.” She said, “That’s the name of the show!”
He could see the lightbulb turn on as she finally put this together. 🙂
Do you watch Master Chef? What’s your fave reality show, if you watch reality shows? (This is the only one we currently watch. They certainly are guilty pleasures, aren’t they?)
Sounds good to me too! Awesome stuff. Continued success.

Ohhhhh we love Master Chef too, and Hells Kitchen, Cops & Law and Order. If that was all they played on TV, then we would be happy. Major kudos on your awesome reviews! Hugs!

Val! So lovely to see you and the adorable puppy face that accompanies your comments! We used to watch Hell’s Kitchen, too, but got tired of people yelling at each other all the time. At least in MC they keep things a little more civil. 🙂 How are you? How are the dogs, the garden? We didn’t get to see your creepy Halloween decorations this year!

Dogs are awesome and cute. I shower them with hugs every day. Garden was so so this season but that is from our goofy weather. We survived yet another successful Halloween too. Now I’m just trying to cope with the time change. I’ll email you a few photos this week. I need to show you the cool table I made too. 💜

Wonderful news on your book. Congrats! Those are numbers you can be proud of. And kudos to you for the radio interviews. I get nervous just thinking of it.

I get nervous thinking about the radio shows, too, even though I’ve done maybe 18 now for the two books combined. When I was asked to do the hour-long show, I immediately requested that my coauthor be on with me. I can manage to scrape by for half an hour, but an hour? My coauthor could do that in her sleep. Fortunately she agreed so I have far less to worry about. She could do the whole hour without me and then some. (She’s a straight up choleric. Lucky woman.)

18?! 18?! I am bowing down to you this very second.

Haha! Please note that most of those were done jointly with my superhero co-author.

Your book is on a great topic. I easily see you as an ‘expert’ on a radio show, covering this topic. Congrats on the great sales!

Thank you so much, Jacqui. I’ve actually been on a lot of radio shows, but they’ve never called me an expert!

Sounds like great things are happening for you! Congrats!! Don’t watch MasterChef, but I love the British baking show (wish I could remember the title). It’s like MasterChef, only with baking stuff. Cakes and cookies–er, crisps–and tortes and all kinds of yummy stuff 😀

You’re not the first person to mention the British baking show. Ooooorr, it was you who’ve mentioned it before… Either way, I ought to look into that some time!

Kudos to your book success, yes, that’s a fantastic number for one month! I agree, marketing successes seem the norm, we’re a “toot your own horn” nation now. need I even mention selfies? Keep going, a little update here and there, done humorously is most welcome. we like that 😉

As a reader of blogs by authors I’d like to say that this little post about marketing, which gets right to the point [and a good one it is], might be the best marketing blog post yet. Well done, both the marketing and writing/publishing a book.

Great numbers there! I sense that self-promotion doesn’t sit all that comfortably with you?
I love love lover Masterchef, our UK one. I’ve seen the American one but I prefer our one I’m afraid. I really like cookery contest shows. The Great British Bake Off is a definite favourite. Another big favourite is from Australia – My Kitchen Rules, have you seen that? They’ve had several seasons of it and they have so many episodes per season! New Zealand did their version too which was also good, but not quite as good as the original Australian one. We also did one season of it here in England, but again, that wasn’t as good as the Australian one.

It’s always hard to top an original. I’m guessing your UK Master Chef doesn’t have Gordon Ramsay? He’s probably too busy out here with us Yanks. That’s kind of ironic. You’re the second person to mention the Great British Bake Off. There must be something to that. “My Kitchen Rules” is a great title.

No we don’t have Gordon Ramsey on ours. My Kitchen Rules is great because they have so many different kinds of challenges from hosting dinner parties in their homes, to mass catering an outdoor event, to cooking in the studio – it’s like all our favourite cooking contest shows rolled into one!

That does sound fun. I really like Ramsey. I’m glad we he have him. Thanks for loaning him out.
