When I started this blog, my kids were still quite young. I thought there’d be less fodder for funny blog posts as they got older. I was wrong. My oldest is now 11. She seems to have taken over the story production from her younger siblings. Observe this quote which Facebook tells me I posted one year ago today:
You know your daughter watches a lot of Master Chef when, after hearing the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand she says, “Do you think before he had his disciples pass out the food he said, ‘Service, please’?”
(You’ll especially get that if you watch any Gordon Ramsey cooking shows.)
And today:
She and my husband were taking apart a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. They had to gather pieces that had fallen on the floor. My husband said, “Do you think we got them all?” She said, “I don’t know. Why don’t you count them?”
Gosh, I love this kid.
Well? Did he count the pieces?

Uhh, no.

So now they’ll have to build the puzzle again to make sure all the parts are there.

Yes, but not for a while. That puzzle was a beast.

Ever wonder how kids think? Love this post. How did she connect the 5/2 story and Gordon Ramsey? Priceless!

Who knows how this kid’s mind works. Passing out food must have reminded her of a recent episode we’d seen. It was certainly funny, though.

Funny about the puzzle.
My wife and son sometimes do those huge puzzles. I don’t have the patience.

It’s a nice activity when you want to relax and unwind. Sometimes I feel like I’m just wasting time, though.

Oh she’s a natural. I have a funny kid. At 30, she has come to realize she gets invited places because it’s like bring the carney. I giggled at that.

You’d be surprised at the number of parents who don’t. It’s always encouraging to read a sentence so rich with spontaneous love. 🙂

That’s really sad, but I know it’s true. 😦

“I don’t know. Why don’t you count them?”–Can’t fault her logic!
Hope you and your family are doing well and having a great summer. Pretty toasty in California this summer, I imagine. I hope none of those fires are near you.

Carrie Rubin! My eyes lit up when I saw your name in my in box. Such a pleasure to have you stop by, as always. I sometimes see your image on other blogs and my eyes smolder with jealousy. Okay, not really. Just being dramatic. Writer and all! 🙂
Yes, the oldest daughter continues to amuse and amaze. And yes, quite hot these days, but thankfully, we’re getting a pass on the wildfires so far this year. They’re farther north at present. We’re always on the alert, though. Thank you for inquiring. I hope your move has gone well?

No move yet. We’re still in the house-showing phase, hoping to find a buyer.
I try to visit blogs when I can. No rhyme or reason. Just have so much else going on!
Glad the fires aren’t near you.

Ah, house showing. Sounds like a pain, especially because you have to keep your house clean at all times. Best of luck to you!

Sorry. Have big boys around probably isn’t helping matters.

Hopefully anyone coming for a viewing will be told, “This is the boys’ bathroom,” and they’ll nod knowingly. And all will be forgiven.
Got a really nice rejection letter today from an agent. It was likely still a form letter despite its kindness. I figured there was no harm in asking in response if she was just being nice or if she actually thinks it needs a serious overhaul. I’m not expecting a reply.

Definitely no harm in asking. 🙂

That’s the idea. Perhaps I should have started doing this sooner, but I don’t really expect a response. I know how busy they are. Have you ever tried it, or succeeded in getting a response?

If they give me feedback, I cherish it, but if it’s a form letter, I haven’t inquired as to what made them pass. But as you said, can’t hurt to try.

This one was tricky. It was really nice and encouraging. Hard to know if it was a form letter or not, which is why I was hoping for clarification. Like, really, you thought it was good even if not right for you? Or you’re just being nice but think it needs a serious overhaul? The response to that would be very helpful!
