As promised a week ago, my five-year-old did indeed put on her kitten underwear today in honor of my birthday. “Mom, I’m wearing my kitty-cat underwear! Do you want to see?” Of course my answer was yes, and she proudly revealed her bottom. My seven-year-old, feeling a bit sheepish for having heartlessly chosen underwear with little forethought to my special day said, “Mom, next year on your birthday I’m going to wear my butterfly underwear, that is, if it’s not being washed.
My kids are the best!

I love the part where she says…NEXT year. Not today, or right now…but next year.

Thinking ahead–it’s a good quality in a kid. Plus, she’s considering all the work that goes into having to change one’s underwear!

I am guessing that the correct reply to this is laughter, understanding the facetiousness of the statement. Not thoughtful acknowledgement (with a slow nod), thinking that it IS a lot of work….

“I don’t have any idea what you just said.” (That’s from a movie, right?)

It was supposed to be a joke. Like, it truly IS hard to change ones underwear….as in…I don’t b/c it is too hard. Oh, forget it. If you have to explain a joke…it really is not one.
