We were having a dinner party, and for dessert I had planned to make lemon meringue pie. Knowing this in advance, my seven-year-old daughter was very disappointed when I announced that I would make lemon bars instead. When she complained, I explained that lemon meringue pie is difficult and it’s been many many years since I’ve made one. Lemon bars would be much quicker and simpler.
She replied, “But, Amelia Bedilia can do it!”

I am not looking forward to the time when Xander starts making comparisons…although…. tonight I went out for a bit to run some errands and my wife asked him to put up some toys so he could play with a train he was wanting to play with. He started putting them up and stopped and said it was to hard. She held her ground and told him “no” he had to put them up first. He then asked her for help and wasn’t putting anything a way. She again said he needed to put something away first. He looked at her and said, “dada helps me do it… you mean!” She told me she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry…..sigh

She would be welcome in our house too. Our daughter would bake with her instead.

Ahh an Amelia Bedilia reference – nice. I think she made chocolate cakes. She made lemon too – wow that is one talented character.

Isn’t it funny how kids think we can do anything. Kind of sad when they find out we can’t.
